LifeCare marks 85th year with publication of new organisational strategy

We are delighted to unveil our new organisational strategy, as we mark an incredible 85 years of supporting older people across Edinburgh and beyond.

Founded in 1941 by three pioneering local women, LifeCare was established to tackle loneliness, a mission that remains firmly at the heart of our work today. The newly launched strategy builds on this legacy, setting out an ambitious vision of a society where no older person is left alone or isolated.

The strategy has been shaped by extensive consultation with those who know LifeCare best, including the people we support, unpaid carers, staff, volunteers and the wider community.

With loneliness continuing to affect 3 in 5 people over 50 in Scotland, and increasing numbers of older people living with complex needs, our work has never been more vital. Our services – from Help at Home and Outreach support to Day Clubs, Meals on Wheels and our Community Hub—are designed to help people stay independent, connected and well.

This strategy also highlights our strong commitment to supporting unpaid carers, improving access to services, and expanding provision sustainably to meet growing demand.

Fundraising will play a crucial role in delivering these ambitions, ensuring services remain accessible and continue to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
