Our free pilot

Thanks to funding from the Encouraging and Supporting Grassroots Activity Fund from Age Scotland’s About Dementia project in partnership with the Scottish Government we are able to pilot this project and provide the service for free until Autumn 2023.

People participating in the pilot will be asked for their input and feedback to help us to develop the design of the service.

We hope that the pilot will help us to design a long term service if there is a demand for it.

Our Service

We provide regular haircuts to people living with dementia in the comfort of their own home.

Our specially designed service ensures people living with dementia can continue to experience the joys and benefits of professional hair care, helping them to feel like themselves, boosting their self-esteem and improving their overall wellbeing.

The service is available to people over 50 years old who are living with dementia in EH4, EH5 & EH12, as well as unpaid carers they live with.

Our hairdresser

The service is provided Audrey, a qualified and experienced hairdresser who is also trained in dementia awareness and reminiscence skills.

She is also a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups scheme.

“It is an absolute pleasure to be helping to deliver this fantastic service. From my own personal experience, I understand how frustrating it can be for a person to be shut-out of these important pleasurable activities. Even a small trim can cheer a person up for the day. In just a few short weeks, I have already seen how much joy the service is bringing for local people. Together we are enjoying a giggle, a chat about old times and everyone is left feeling a million dollars.”

“I still really enjoy taking pride in my appearance – it makes me feel like me again”

"my parents are both delighted with their hair cuts and also with Audrey!"

“[Having my hair done] makes me feel like a million dollars”
